Alright look at the video at 0:53, notice that the middle pieces do not actually line up correctly to the square shape, rather there appears to be extra in those pieces. What he essentially is doing each time is taking a ‘blocks worth’ of space out of the middle sections. After taking the third block out you’ll notice that the middle sections actually fit correctly together now.
You may be questioning: “But at the start they fit together correctly!?!”
Look back at 0:39, there is a short cut in the film when half of the blocks are out. This is so you think that he’s starting with the same number of blocks as ending. In reality he first shows you the set up with three blocks out and then places the extras in during that cut scene. Because half of the pieces are already out you can’t tell that they do not fit together perfectly.
